Please join the United Solo Team for a special two act celebration of Solo Performance. Act I is festival Assistant Artistic Director Wendy-Lane Bailey in a peice titled “She Has Wings.”Conceived in partnership with and directed by festival Founder and Artistic Director Omar Sangare and featuring music by composer Michele Brourman with images by photographer Bill Westmoreland, She Has Wings is a tribute to our fellow artists who strive continually to discover their wings and soar to new heights, taking us along for the ride.
Act II is our annual gala where we honor the festival artists who went above and beyond this year bringing new voices to the conversation through innovative story telling, brazen honesty and commitment to craft. We will also announce the Audience Award winner and the United Solo Special Award. The Special award recognizes artists from outside the festival who have furthered the art of solo performance. This year’s awardee will join a list of distinguished artists including Anna Deavere Smith (2010), Patti LuPone (2011), John Leguizamo (2012), Fiona Shaw (2013), Billy Crystal (2014), James Lecesne (2015), Staceyann Chin in collaboration with Cynthia Nixon (2016), Michael Moore (2017), Renee Taylor (2018), Aasif Mandvi (2019), Ian McKellen (2020), and Lee Roy Reams (2021).
